As I am sitting on my couch writing this section for the Book of Stevo I really have to think back to the first time I heard that having a relationship with the same sex was wrong. I find myself drawing a blank. I do remember growing up I would hear about it on TV and and in church. I really did not know how I felt on this topic. What I did know is if I were to say it was wrong I would have been lying to myself. I say this because as any normal red blooded male I really liked to watch two women making out and so on. I am just being honest here. When I realised that this was an issue I had come to the conclusion that i needed to not judge differently two guys in the same manner.
In the case of two people loving each other and having feelings that they could not live without each other is another story. Personally I find no fault in two people that love each other being a couple, raising a child together or even getting married. Does it really effect how I live my life? I mean does their actions affect my personal life? What they do in the bedroom is not of my business just as what I do in my bedroom is none of your business. I may have offended my Christian readers but I felt the need to express this point. Now let me get to the subject of this section.
This section I am writing was spawned by the whole Phil Robertson interview drama that is all over the media and internet. I have never seen the show and I most likely never will. In the next chapter of this section I will spend more time on the whole topic. As we all know the Christian Church as a whole has a lot to fight about but almost all of them can agree that being homosexual is a sin and God condemns them for it. Where in the world does it say this in the Bible? I have always wondered this. I have heard many people quote Bible verses but they were unclear and maybe even misinterpreted. Now let us see what the Bible says about all of this.
The Book of Leviticus in the Old Testament has a few verses that speak about men not sleeping with other men. Leviticus 18:22 NKJV says “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Also in Leviticus 20:13 NKJV says “if a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. So in the Old Testament it was viewed an abomination to lie with the same sex. Old Testament laws such as the blood sacrifices and food and drink laws ended once Jesus was crucified on the cross but was sleeping with the same sex one of those? Is there any mention of this controversial topic in the New Testament? Let us review a few texts.
1 Corinthians 6:9–10 NKJV says “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. Also in Romans 1:26-28 says For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their errr. 28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper.
According to these two verses alone it looks like Paul was writing to the churches not to give in to the sexual desires of this world. I feel that there was more to the story in Romans when Paul says God gave them over to a depraved mind. Since Paul knew what was going I would be willing to bet that these actions were done out in the open and worse than just normal sexual actions. Also I believe that Christians have become lukewarm when it comes to morality because divorce and sex before marriage seems to have been placed on the back burner and homosexuality has taken over on the sin radar. When you see Christians in the news protesting what are they protesting the most? You see protesters around Gay Pride conventions and at voting locations when a bill to pass Same Sex Marriage is on the ballot.
I feel there is always two sides to every story. As a Christian I guess I am always to take the side of the Christian view no matter what. I have been called out by one of my Christian friends about always taking the opposite side of Christian views. Listed below is a Facebook conversation with my friend that I will call Jerry. The name has been changed to protect the innocent. Ok I love Dragnet and needed to say that line for a long time. This conversation with Jerry really opened my mind about my views on faith. I mean no disrespect to my friend and he gave me permission to share this conversation. I posted a comment on one of his Pro Duck Dynasty posts basically asking what the big deal was. Here is where the messenger conversation started.
Jerry: Wow You never cease to amaze me, Steve! Anytime Christians are attacked you join the attack! Why? I mean, you really, really amaze me!
Me: I just see more than one side on somethings. I am not saying A&E was in the right…. they fired him for answering questions that were not even on their show. That is not right. I just wish people could see that Phil made the decision to answer those questions. Then again as the memes have said they should not have asked a 70 year old guy from the sticks his views if they didnt want an answer..
Me: IDK Jerry. I just wonder how much stuff is done to take our minds off of other things,,,, kinda like false flag ish stuff for government to do things when people are focused on other events. not that i believe in false flag stuff it just i am trying to figure it all out.
Jerry: Well, I said the same thing myself! – I would wonder why they asked me about the whole gay thing! I’ve had people ask me why I serve the Lord and answered with a question – I asked them if they REALLY wanted to know, or if they were looking for a fight! These are not stupid people, but people who are just going through the motions, giving interviews, taking every chance to promote the show, at walk in that fame, giving glory to God. they’re not professional preachers, with a wise team watching out for spiritual assassins, etc. They probably will now!
Jerry: But, in the end, if someone asks me what I think about what the bible says about homosexuality I would definitely tell them what I think AND what the bible says – AND what I think what the bible says about it!
Jerry: THEY – gay and lesbian people are NO different than anyone else that sins in this world.
Me: Very True
My friend Jerry posts a lot about defending the faith and fighting against attacks on the Christian faith. So when I post being for things like Same Sex Marriage I guess I am taking the wrong side. I understand that we as Christians are to defend the faith. I also understand that we are to love each other and love my neighbor as myself. I do not see being hateful as a way to get a Christian point across. After having a longer conversation with Jerry he said something that really hit home with me.
Jerry: In the end I am responsible to answer to God for what I did with what he told me to do with his word and did I love the people the way he told me to! Every person who claims to be a “christian” will have to do the same.
Jerry: Yes, Steve! Jesus spent much time with people that needed salvation – he NEVER condoned what they were doing – he ALWAYS spoke to them about a way to heaven – and the ONLY way to heaven! That’s it! Nothing more! He talked about hell! Who it was for and yes, he spoke against religious hypocrites.
In the above conversation the spirit hit me saying that I needed to focus on. I needed to keep working on my faith and live out my faith the way Jesus would want me to. Be the light of the world that is spoken of in the book of Matthew. Share God with people and love them just as He does. I should not try to tell people how to live their lives or to even judge because this is the job of the Almighty God. I guess I had always felt this way but never had a confirmation that this should be my theology until now. I will continue to have my personal views because that is my right and God wants us to have our own views and choose our own ways. This is one of the reasons why we are here isn’t it?
So how do I feel about the whole Duck Dynasty drama? Well I feel that Phil had the right to answer the question. I also believe that he had to know that the answers he gave about homosexuals would come back to bite him in butt. I do have a question. Why don’t people point out that the reporter had to be gunning for him? The interviewer had to know that that the question could harm him. Well in the end the publicity for both show and network have been a public relations manager’s dream come true. There is promotion from both the mainstream and Christian markets which is a hard thing to do. Don’t worry about Phil because he will have many more jobs from all this for standing for what he believes in.
